Cathedral City Cove
Cathedral City Cove Real Estate
Cathedral City Cove real estate is rich in history. Especially when it comes to the arts. Painters, photographers and writers have been setting up shop in the eclectic neighborhood since the 1930s. Located just south of Downtown Cathedral City, the area is an eclectic neighborhood of single family homes. Here one can find all the conveniences of daily life. In addition, the area boasts great shopping and dining options. Considered a quiet area since it is far enough from the main town and streets of Cathedral City that residents don’t feel like they are in a big urban setting at all. The Cathedral City Cove neighborhood comprises the section of the city south of East Palm Canyon Drive between Date Palm Drive and Bankside Drive, fanning out into the foothills of the Santa Rosa Mountains. Cathedral City Cove is a diverse community popular among artists and the LGBTQ community.
Cathedral City Cove, History
This history of the Cathedral City Cove neighborhood plays a vital part in the identity of its residents. Believe it or not, Hopalong Cassidy was an early lower Cove resident. Hop-along Cassidy AKA William Boyd, was an actor who portrayed the cowboy hero in movies dating back to 1918. Without a doubt the Cove history is a heartfelt reminder of days gone by. A diverse community popular among artists and the LGBTQ community, the Cathedral City Cove enjoys a colorful history as the home of Cahuilla Indians, the original inhabitants of the Coachella Valley and, later, as a melting pot of sorts for working families and eclectics in search of expressive freedom. Home to historic actors and artists, Cathedral City Cove has a colorful and vibrant community.
Cathedral City Cove, Most Notable Resident
Art and ingenuity thrive in Cathedral City Cove. Of the most notable resident artist was Agnes Pelton, who bought a plot of land in the Cove in 1937, more than 40 years before Cathedral City was incorporated. Many of her peers and friends settled in nearby homes. Known as a “modern” and “transcendental” painter, Pelton painted desert landscapes, imagined characters and settings and, occasionally, abstract works. In 2009, her paintings were exhibited with those of Georgia O’Keeffe at the Orange County Museum of Art.
