Greater Palm Springs Event Calendar

Caltrans began work on January 13, 2025 to rehabilitate pavement conditions on a section of Highway 111 that runs through the City of Palm Springs. Work began at Golf Club Drive at East Palm Canyon, then is headed west on East Palm Canyon to Gene Autry Trail, north on Gene Autry Trail to Vista Chino, west on Vista Chino to Highway 111 (North Palm Canyon), then north to West Gateway Drive.  One lane in each direction will remain open during the rehabilitation work, which is expected to take until the end of 2025. Residents and businesses will be notified ahead of time when work will begin on their segment of the roadway. The fifth edition of Desert X, the recurring site-specific, international art exhibition will open at sites across the Coachella Valley, California from March 8 – May 11, 2025. Curated by Artistic Director Neville Wakefield and Co-curator Kaitlin Garcia-Maestas, the exhibition will reflect on the desert's deep time evolutions, challenging us to glean wisdom from its vast knowledge. Delving deeper into nonlinear narratives of time, it will form a space where ancestral wisdom intertwines and collides with contemporary visions for our collective future. New commissions by artists from around the world will expand upon issues related to indigenous futurism, design activism, colonial power asymmetries, and the role of emerging technologies in our contemporary society. Museum guests are treated to the extra special experience of being allowed to sit at the controls and pose for pictures. From 10:00-12:00 each Saturday, a selected aircraft will be opened up and made accessible to the public. Museum Volunteers will also be on hand to answer questions and provide the historical back drop for the aircraft you are sitting in. Guests are strongly cautioned to dress appropriately for climbing into the planes and also reminded not to leave their cameras at home. This is a rare experience that you’ll want to remember forever. Suggested $5 donation for the open cockpit experience includes souvenir Air Museum provided photograph. Air Museum admission also applies. The Palm Springs Air Museum reserves the right to refuse access to anyone deemed to be a hazard to themselves, other guests/staff and/ or the aircraft.

The Palm Springs Animal Shelter is in crisis. Over the past few weeks, we’ve taken in so many large dogs that we are completely out of space. There is nowhere left to house them, and we cannot take in another large dog until some find homes. From April 25th to 27th, we are hosting the Big Dog Adoption Bonanza to help these incredible dogs find the loving families they deserve. Adoption fees for all large dogs will be waived. Every adoption includes a year of free vaccinations and six months of free dog food, generously provided by Lucy Pet Food. If you’ve been thinking about adopting, now is the time. These dogs need your help. Even if you aren’t looking to adopt, you can make a difference by spreading the word. Share this with friends, family, and your community.
