In the emerging post-war housing market, there was a ton of potential for Southern California’s Modernist architecture. In fact, for developers like Roy Fey, his ability to see potential in not only Modernist architecture. But also in the Alexander Construction Company is how El Rancho Vista Estates came to be. It’s why he is said to be, one of Palm Springs most prolific developers. By engaging the local architecture firm Wexler & Harrison to design homes in El Rancho Vista Estates. His new development in this Palm Springs neighborhood came to life.
Mid Century Modern Look
With the success of Fey’s initial release of the 75 homes built for his new development, he decided to expand. Over the next few years, Fey further expanded the neighborhood with 40 more homes. Interestingly, some of the homes were standard style ranch homes. With open plan layouts that include flat roofs and butterfly roofs to down-turned eaves, the neighborhood is now filled with classic mid-century architectural elements. Elements such as decorative concrete blocks and floor to ceiling glass walls, to mountain views that enhance indoor/outdoor living.
